Splintered Realms Dizzy
A downloadable game for Windows
In 1986, the Oliver Twins, through Codemasters, released "Dizzy: The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure" for the ZX Spectrum, kicking off a long-running series and creating the closest thing the Spectrum ever got to a system mascot.
In 2006, Alexandru and Cristina Simion released DizzyAGE, a PC tool and engine to create fangames in the same style. The games proliferated, with an annual competition and reimplementations of the official games so they could be played without an emulator.
In 2010 and 2012, I made 2 games using DizzyAGE, 'Lost Temple Dizzy' and 'Iron Tower Dizzy'. They stretched my programming abilities at the time, and I (mostly) like how they turned out.
In 2021, Spectrum speedrunner TinyTim78 streamed both of my games on Twitch, as casual runs, and it was a really fun and wholesome time.
Activity around DizzyAGE seems to be slow, now. The engine got its last update in 2014, and the annual competition doesn't run any more. However, I've decided to complete the trilogy, as it were, and write Splintered Realms Dizzy, trying to use the best ideas of the other two games.
