The Final Stretch

In Lost Temple Dizzy, there's one section near the end where you need things from a number of other areas. The shrines were mostly self-contained chains of puzzles, and one key puzzle element from each found its way to the inner sanctum of the temple. This was, overall, a neat idea; having seen those puzzle elements previously the player felt clever for knowing exactly what they needed to do when encountering it again. The only real difficulty was if they'd left the key item somewhere inconvenient - or couldn't remember where they'd left it at all!

As each realm is a distinct puzzle chain in Splintered Realms Dizzy, I could pull the same stunt again. I'm not sure it's such a good idea this time round though, because there are twice as many parallel areas to draw from, and each of those areas is bigger than the shrines. I think it might be too much like make-work, particularly given how I've endeavoured to streamline this game as much as possible.

I could do a similar thing, but with the special abilities the rescued characters give you. However, as only one is available at a time, this would probably involve a lot of traipsing back and forth between the main hub and the final area. Again, something I want to minimise.

So should I do this at all this time round? I'm honestly unsure. I'd be very interested in hearing anyone's thoughts on the question.

With realm 6 complete, the game is around 70% finished. I'll have to make up my mind about the last part soon.

I really enjoyed the mechanism in Lost Temple Dizzy and don't think it was too much backtracking. It reminds the player of the shrines and brings it all to a nice conclusion. Dizzy gamers generally have a high threshold for traipsing across the landscape anyway eg Magicland where you have to cross the entire map twice at the end...
