Destinies in the Stars
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Something like 25 years ago, playing Ascendancy and Master of Orion II I had a germ of an idea. Periodically I've dusted it off and taken a crack at implementing a game based on it, but it had never previously got very far, largely because I didn't really have enough other ideas to complement it. This time around, I think it's ready.
Eventually I hope this will become a fully-featured single-player 4X game. The current plan is for:
- 10 unique factions to play
- 5 separate but linked tech trees, with randomisation to make every game different
- Fleet combat that is interesting and plays quickly regardless of the size of the fleets, using a board-game-like system
- A flexible building model that lets you build as wide or as tall as you wish
- An invasion model more nuanced than sending a flotilla of troop ships and clicking a button
